In 70 AD, after many years of Roman oppression in Israel, the city of Jerusalem was finally destroyed by Roman general Titus. 1.1 million Jews were killed and the remaining 97000 Jews were carried away into all corners of the Roman empire as slaves (Bunting 2017). It was the end of Israel. There was no more Jerusalem and no more the nation of Israel in that land. Their name was deleted from the list of nations. Their land was sacked and renamed. They were literally wiped off the map. It was expected by their enemies that Jews and Israel would now go down to history as an ancient civilization.
However, against all odds, the Jews did not die. In spite of the fact that their country was wiped off the map, most of their people were killed and the remnants were scattered all over the world they still preserved their language, culture, faith in their God and their dream to come back to their homeland one day.
In the following centuries, the exiled and enslaved Jews were systematically accused of all kinds of accusations and subjected to all kinds of persecution and murder all over the world. By Church fathers they were accused as Satan worshipers, cursed Christ killers and dogs (John Chrysostom). In Spain they were burned at the stakes (Eisen) and Protestant reformer Martin Luther encouraged Christians to hate and persecute Jews with his book “On the Jews and Their Lies”.
Early in the 20th century the culture of anti-Semitism (hating, degrading and wishing to get rid of Jews) became so strong and wide-spread in Europe that a lunatic like Hitler could win the elections in Germany with the stated objective of cleaning Europe from the Jews. In the end, Hitler and his soldiers could kill nearly 6 million Jews in Holocaust and Nazi persecution (Holocaust Encyclopedia - 1). Hitler and his soldiers were only the hitmen. They could not do what they did if the culture of anti-Semitism was not so wide-spread and strong.
However, in spite of all the persecution and holocaust, the God of the Jews brought their remnants back to their homeland after WWII. In 1948 Israel was born again as a nation with a population of only about 800,000 (JVL-1). On the evening of Friday, 14 May 1948 at Tel Aviv, David Ben-Gurion declared the formation and independence of the State of Israel and he became the first prime minister of Israel (Bar Zohar). The return of Jews back to their homeland and the formation of the independent nation of Israel was a Biblical scale miracle and also the fulfillment of the Biblical prophesies as prophesied by Isaiah, Ezekiel and Jeremiah.
"Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has ever seen this? Can a country be brought forth in one day? Can a nation be born in a single moment? Yet as soon as Zion goes into labor she gives birth to sons!" (Isaiah 66:8, NET).
God did just as He said, Jews were brought back to their homeland and their nation was born in a single moment. However, the next morning, on 15 May 1948 five Arab nations (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Transjordan and Egypt) simultaneously invaded Israel with an intention to massacre all the Jews.
"Invaded from all directions, Israel had to cope with the outbreak of a thousand fires, and to do so with limited means. Numerous settlement outposts in the Galilee and the Negev were isolated, open on all sides to Arab attack, and had to rely on their own perseverance and meager armories to stave off defeat. The hastily mobilized army had to engage in offensive action to remove the enemy from key positions, block the advance of their columns, and rush to seal gaps in Israel's defenses" (JVL -2).
Neither the Arabs nor anyone else gave Israel and Jews any chance to survive this massive Arab invasion from the powerful armies of five well established Arab nations. However, once again, God of the Jews came to their rescue and defeated all five of the Arab armies. At the end of the war, Israel was victorious. Since that independence war, Israel has been attacked by surrounding Arab nations many times. And almost every time, Israel won and the Arabs lost.
Today Israel’s Jewish population is just over 6 million and they are surrounded with anti-Semitic Arab nations whose total population reach over 600 million. This year is the 70th anniversary of Israel’s rebirth. Over these 70 years, tiny Israel did not only survive but also flourished and became a global superpower.
It is all because, God of Israel is watching over, protecting and blessing them. Israel is a living miracle of the God of the Bible.
Furthermore, the God of Jews said that the nations that will bless Israel will also be blessed, but the nations that stand against Israel will be cursed and utterly destroyed."Arise, shine [Yerushalayim], for your light has come, the glory of ADONAI has risen over you… For the nation or kingdom that won't serve you will perish; yes, those nations will be utterly destroyed" (Isaiah 60:1 and 12, CJB).
Where do you stand?
Are you a friend of Israel who can see the mighty hand of God over this nation and who wants to bless this nation? Or, are you an anti-Semitic who is unable to see this great miracle of God and who is trying to blame and accuse Jews with all kinds of accusations, and even remove them from their God given land? Remember please, those that bless Jews and Israel will be blessed together with Israel. But those that blame, accuse and curse Jews will be cursed and utterly destroyed together with the enemies of Israel. Because the Almighty God of Jews said: “I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt…” (Genesis 12:3)
