The King of the universe Jesus Christ is coming back soon. As the the King of kings He has demanded from us a total devotion, sincere love and unwavering alliance for Him and His Kingdom. When He is back here He will be looking exactly for that.

King Jesus Christ demands loyal alliance, not mere lip service.

I want to remind you what He said in Matthew 15:8 “These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me”.

Only those who have offered to Jesus their most sincere faith, deepest love and diligent service will be received and honoured by Jesus as “good and faithful servants”. All the others, who have offered a mere lip service to Jesus will be rejected as “worthless servants”.

We can clearly see this in Jesus’ parable of ten talents in Matthew 25:14-30 (NIV).

Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

“ ‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Very clearly, in this parable the Master is Jesus Himself, the servants are you and and I, and all those people who have decided to believe in Jesus, the talents are the life and the skills, the resources, the relationships, the opportunities and the friends and families that Jesus gave us. He gave us all these so that we can serve Jesus, glorify His name and further His Kingdom.

Surely we are at the end of the times now. King Jesus might appear on the clouds anytime now.

When He returns, He will call all of us and settle the accounts. When He is back, He will not be pleased with mere lip service. What He has demanded and what He will be looking for is a sincere commitment to Him and His Kingdom, as it is displayed in this parable by the two good and faithful servants.

When He is back He will call all of us for an account. Now the question is this: How will He find you? Will He find that you have been a good and faithful servant, using your life and resources to glorify His name, to further His Kingdom and to serve His purposes? Will He find you as a self-centred, self enriching, indifferent and lazy person, like the worthless servant in the parable?

What are you doing with your life and your resources? Are you sincerely serving Jesus and His Kingdom with all your heart, strength and resources, or are you keeping yourself busy with the mediocre Christianity?

Be warned! The King is coming back. He will be looking for good and faithful servants! Anyone who is found to be busy with lip service will be regarded as “worthless servants” will be cast into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Anyone who is to be found as “good and faithful servants” will be rewarded with even greater responsibilities in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
